Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies is reportedly a surprise transfer target for Chelsea, who are currently suffering from a string of defensive injuries.

Chelsea have reportedly considered making a move for Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.

Mauricio Pochettino has had issues in that area of the pitch all season, and the club allowed Ian Maatsen to join Borussia Dortmund last week in a deal that could become permanent at the end of the season.

Ben Chilwell is the undisputed number one choice at left-back, but relentless injury issues have restricted his availability.

In his absence, Marc Cucurella has often been the man to come in, but the Spaniard is also dealing with injury at present, and his form at Stamford Bridge has often come into question.

That has seen Levi Colwill forced to play out-of-position at left-back in the past six league games, with Malo Gusto required at right-back to cover Reece James.

With the problems mounting up on the left-hand side of Chelsea's defence, football.london claims that the club are set to make an audacious effort to lure Davies from the German giants.

Davies has just 18 months left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, and there is speculation that he could leave the club before his deal is up.

Summer signing Raphael Guerreiro has recently returned from an injury which saw him miss most of the early months of the season, and will now provide competition for Davies's spot in the side.

However, current injuries at Bayern mean that Guerreiro has had to fill in as a central midfielder, with the two players complementing each other on the left.

The report states that Bayern could be open to a deal which would see Chilwell go in the opposite direction, but a contract renewal for Davies is still not off the table, and Real Madrid are also thought to be interested in the 23-year-old.

Davies has gained notoriety for his attacking instincts from left-back, and also plays as a left-winger for his national side Canada.

Since joining from MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019, Davies has 34 goal involvements for Bayern from defence, and that figure could have been even higher had injuries not cut short many of his seasons in Bavaria.

This campaign has been injury-free up to now for Davies though, as he has been near-ever-present under Thomas Tuchel so far across all competitions.
