Gavin Massey brace sinks Fleetwood Town

Gavin Massey scores twice as Colchester United come from behind to claim a 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town in their League One match.

Gavin Massey scored twice as Colchester United claimed a 2-1 victory over Fleetwood Town to record their third win of the League One season.

Sanchez Watt almost found the net for hosts early on when his curling free kick missed everyone in the box and went just wide of the far post.

Liam McAlinden gave the visitors the lead in the 19th minute when he latched onto Gareth Evans's pass over the top, before chipping an effort over the keeper.

With five minutes of the first half remaining Colchester levelled the scores as Massey volleyed home from Freddie Sears's cross.

After the break Sears came close to a second for the hosts, but his effort was saved by Chris Maxwell.

George Moncur was the next Colchester player to test the keeper, but Maxwell was equal to his volley from the edge of the box.

In the 76th minute the hosts made their pressure count by taking the lead when Massey curled a strike into the top corner.

Steven Schumacher and Stephen Dobbie both had efforts saved in stoppage time, as Colchester held on to claim the three points.
