Paul Clement calls for more quality in Derby County attack

Paul Clement insists that he is "very positive" about certain aspects of Derby County's game, but admits that further work needs to be done in the final third.

Derby County boss Paul Clement has acknowledged that his side must show 'more of a cutting edge' in attack if they are to challenge for promotion.

The Rams have drawn each of their opening three Championship fixtures, despite being heavily backed to finish top.

Clement admits that there is still work to be done if Derby are to push on, but he insists there is plenty to be positive about following what has ultimately been an unbeaten start.

"I knew when I arrived in June that the Championship was going to be a really competitive league so that hasn't surprised me," he told the club's official website.

"I know that every game is going to be hard but I'm confident that the points will start coming for us. I'm very positive about certain parts of our game.

"We obviously need that little bit of a cutting edge to break a team down when they are very compact and also convert the chances that we get. Whether it's from lots of chances or just one or two, we need that cutting edge in the top third."

Derby face the short trip to Birmingham City this evening in the opening fixture of the Football League weekend.
