How England could line up against the Netherlands in UEFA Nations League

Sports Mole looks at how England could line up for Thursday's UEFA Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands.

After the disappointment of losing in the semi-finals of the World Cup last summer, England have another shot at glory over the next week as they travel to Portugal for the UEFA Nations League Finals.

The Three Lions finished top of a group containing Croatia and Spain to set up a semi-final with the Netherlands, while one of Portugal or Switzerland await in the final should they make it that far.

Gareth Southgate's preparations have been disrupted somewhat as seven of his players were on club duty until the weekend, however, with Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool reaching the final of the Champions League.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Southgate could set out his side for Thursday's clash with the Netherlands.

Possible ENG XI vs. NETH

Doubtful: Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Danny Rose, Joe Gomez, Harry Kane, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dele Alli

Of the seven players late to join up to the England squad, Spurs substitute Dier appears to be the best placed to stake a claim for a starting spot due to a lack of midfield options.

Kane struggled on his return from a two-month layoff in Madrid and is almost certain to sit this one out, leaving Marcus Rashford as the obvious candidate to start through the middle.

Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho, coming off the back of impressive campaigns for club and country, are the favourites to start either side of Rashford.

After netting just two goals in his first 45 games for England, Sterling has since scored six goals in his last four appearances for the Three Lions.

At the back, Michael Keane was used alongside Harry Maguire in the 5-1 win against Montenegro last time out, but John Stones is in line to return to the back four on Thursday.
