Preview: Huddersfield Town vs. Wycombe Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Huddersfield Town and Wycombe Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Huddersfield Town head into their meeting with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon sitting just five points above the Championship relegation zone.

Meanwhile, the Chairboys have gone five matches without a win, leaving the minnows of the division as many as 12 points away from safety.

Having claimed draws against Stoke City and Luton Town, there are signs that Huddersfield are still playing for Carlos Corberan at an important period of the season.

However, collecting just five points from eight matches has turned the Terriers into relegation candidates, heaping the pressure on the Spaniard.

While Huddersfield remain as high as 17th position, Corberan will be satisfied that his squad are in a position to make quick progress up the standings.

Nevertheless, it will not be lost on the club's hierarchy that Huddersfield are currently the worst-performing side in the division, a record they will not allow to continue in the long term.

Corberan will not have a better chance to get his project at the John Smith's Stadium back on track, but defeat will raise further questions over whether he is the right man for the job.

As far as Wycombe are concerned, they have been left with no option but to attack this game after three poor performances against fellow relegation rivals.

Gareth Ainsworth's side were fortunate to gain a point against Birmingham City, although it has not prevented the Chairboys falling further out of contention.

With meetings with many of the promotion contenders just around the corner, Ainsworth and his squad realistically have to collect a significant amount of points from games against Huddersfield, Derby County and Millwall.

Whether that is possible remains to be seen, but Ainsworth will hope that already being dismissed by the majority of the media will act as the catalyst for one of English football's greatest ever survival bids.

Team News

Fred Onyedinma, Admiral Muskwe and Uche Ikpeazu could all be recalled to the Wycombe starting lineup.

Joe Jacobson should return at left-back after a spell out through injury, while David Wheeler could feature in midfield.

Huddersfield will be without Harry Toffolo, who begins a three-match ban after his dismissal versus Luton.

Jaden Brown could be handed a rare opportunity at left-back if Corberan opts to keep Naby Sarr in the middle of defence.

Alex Pritchard and Rolando Aarons are also pushing for a return to the Terriers XI.

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Schofield; Pipa, Keogh, Sarr, Brown; Bacuna, Hogg, O'Brien; Mbenza, Campbell, Holmes

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Allsop; McCarthy, Stewart, Tafazolli, Jacobson; Wheeler, Thompson, Ofoborh; Onyedinma, Ikpeazu, Muskwe

SM words green background

We say: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Both teams will view this as the perfect opportunity to get back on track, increasing the likelihood of two attack-minded teams being named as the respective managers. However, Huddersfield have made home advantage count this season, and we see no reason why they should not edge this fixture.
