Carlos Edwards: 'Players should take some blame'

Carlos Edwards calls upon his Ipswich Town teammates to lessen the heat on manager Paul Jewell.

Ipswich Town captain Carlos Edwards has insisted that he and his teammates shoulder some of the blame for the club's current plight.

The Tractor Boys are currently 23rd in the Championship table, having claimed just one victory from their opening 11 matches of the new season.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times following their latest loss to Hull City at the weekend, Edwards admitted that it was time that the playing staff took some of the pressure off of manager Paul Jewell.

"The players felt for him. We are disappointed in ourselves that we are not getting the results he knows we are capable of," he said. "But we can't dwell on what the gaffer is going through as we are not in the same position he is in. All fingers are going to be pointed at him.

"I don't think the team performed in the way we could. At this level, you need everyone to be at least 90% to get something from a game.

"I think everyone needs [a kick up the backside] – myself included."

Ipswich face Derby County tomorrow night.
