Mick McCarthy hails Ipswich Town strike partnership

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy reacts to his side's 2-1 win at home to Huddersfield Town.

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has praised his side's strike partnership of David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy following their 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town.

Both players found the net as the Tractor Boys came back from a goal down after Daniel Ward was on target for the hosts in the first period.

"Daryl Murphy was a real physical presence and had a couple of other chances beforehand. But like all centre-forwards, he wants to score," Sky Sports News quotes McCarthy as saying.

"Murphy and David McGoldrick are a good partnership, our best partnership. Diddsy [McGoldrick] is a more technical footballer, but Murphy is more powerful, aggressive and better in the air.

"If you could put them together, you would have one hell of a player - but then they wouldn't be here."

McCarthy went on to say that 2-1 was a fair result, but admitted that his side rode their luck at times, almost falling behind early on to a James Vaughan penalty that was kept out by Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken.

"I thought it was a great result and a fair one," he added. "It was a bit touch-and-go either way. I didn't think it was a penalty in the first half - so Vaughan got his just desserts.

"But we showed a great response to their goal and we have a great spirit at the club. People care about their mates, the team and the club."

The result leaves Ipswich in ninth place in the Championship.
