James Tavernier: 'I won't sign for Leeds United'

Rangers full-back James Tavernier dismisses rumours that he wants to join Leeds United in January.

James Tavernier has dismissed rumours that he will join Leeds United in January.

Previous reports claimed that the Rangers full-back wanted to link up with Leeds boss Steve Evans, whom he played under at Rotherham United, but the 24-year-old is hoping for a long-term stay in Glasgow.

"Steve Evans is a great guy. He is just under the gaffer at Rangers as he also gave me the freedom to play," Tavernier told the Daily Record.

"I had a great season under him, he's a character. We had a brilliant time at Rotherham when we won promotion. But my full commitment is to Rangers. I am enjoying my football, my family has moved up and we are all enjoying the Glasgow experience. I can't wait to move up and push on with this club.

"It's good to put down roots. That was my main aim when I came here, to put foundations down and settle at a club I can remain at for years. This is definitely a club that I can see myself doing that."

The former Wigan Athletic player has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances this season.
