Sunderland have reportedly restarted transfer discussions with Liverpool regarding Fabio Borini.
The Italian striker spent last season on loan with the Black Cats and he had been expected to join them on a permanent deal during the summer.
However, it is believed that the 23-year-old rejected a move to Wearside, having opted instead to fight for his future at Anfield.
Borini has struggled to force his way into Brendan Rodgers's starting lineup on a regular basis, which has resulted in Sunderland reigniting their interest in the former Chelsea player, according to Goal.com.
The report adds that the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement over a fee, but the final decision will rest with Borini.
