UEFA: 'John Stones is registered to play for Manchester City'

UEFA confirms that John Stones has been registered to play for Manchester City in the Champions League, despite the defender still being at Everton.

UEFA has released a statement confirming that John Stones has been officially registered to play for Manchester City, despite the defender still being at Everton.

City have been pursuing the England international, who is believed to be valued at £50m by his Merseyside club.

Despite no official word from either club regarding a transfer, UEFA listed Stones in City's Champions League squad on its official website this morning.

The 22-year-old appears to have been given the number 24 shirt at the Etihad Stadium, but according to Sky Sports News, he has not yet signed a contract with the two-time Premier League champions.

In response to Stones's inclusion in City's Champions League squad, UEFA said in a statement: "He was in the squad list we received from Manchester City. The deadline was yesterday and the player was in the squad.

"He has been registered to play [for City]. We are double-checking now as we have had a lot of calls about this."

Stones joined Everton from Barnsley in 2013.
