Phil Jones: 'We showed why we are champions'

Phil Jones says that Manchester United proved why they are the current champions with their comeback win against Sunderland in the Premier League.

Phil Jones has claimed that Manchester United showed why they are the reigning Premier League champions in their 2-1 victory against Sunderland on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils were trailing 1-0 after only five minutes, but two goals in the second half from Adnan Januzaj turned the game on its head.

"That was the sign of champions out there," Jones told MUTV. "When your backs are against the wall and everyone's raising questions, a performance like that puts the record straight. Everyone dug in. It was a great performance and a massive three points."

Jones also said that Januzaj has the ability to perform at the top.

"He's a massive talent and he's got a lot of ability. If Gareth Bale scores one like the second goal, everyone's raving about it," he added.

"He knows what he has got to do. He has to keep his head down and, if he keeps playing like that, he is going to hit the heights."

The win moved David Moyes's men up to ninth in the league.
