Rio Ferdinand slams Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were "invisible" in Wednesday's defeat to Sheffield United.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has slammed "invisible" Red Devils attackers Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial following their 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men missed the chance to return to the top of the table as the Premier League's basement side pulled off a shock win, with Kean Bryan and Oliver Burke netting either side of a Harry Maguire header.

Man United's normally potent attack was nullified by a Blades backline marshalled by 38-year-old Phil Jagielka, and Ferdinand believes that Solskjaer's goal-getters were simply non-existent on the night.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: "They didn't have that zip about them. From minute one, really, there wasn't that cut and thrust we've seen from United.

"Credit Sheffield United, Chris Wilder set them up very well. But United didn't ask the questions. Bruno Fernandes, who they've relied on so heavily in recent weeks, months, didn't get it going today. Paul Pogba the same.

"Rashford and Martial were invisible, didn't get on the end of anything, didn't create anything. If anybody was starting to get carried away at Old Trafford, with the position that they're on, it was a reality check."

Defeat to the Blades ended Man United's 13-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, and they are now one point behind leaders Manchester City having played a game more.
