Liverpool reportedly have ambitions to sign one of the Brazil internationals currently representing Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Having been eliminated from the Champions League earlier this week, Liverpool are currently focused on trying to win Sunday's EFL Cup final and convert their 15-point lead in the Premier League table into a top-flight title.
However, despite largely impressing in Arne Slot's first season in charge, it became apparent in defeat to Paris Saint-Germain that Liverpool have some way to go on the continental front.
Priority is likely to be placed on acquiring a new right-back and centre-back, while it is fair to assume that another versatile attacker may be on the agenda.
That could theoretically bring the potential acquisition of Matheus Cunha into play, yet according to Gazete do Urubu, Liverpool currently have another Wolves player in mind.

Liverpool pushing for Gomes
The report alleges that Joao Gomes is close to agreeing a deal to sign for Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
A potential fee of €60m (£50.62m) is mentioned, a figure that may be required to tempt Wolves into a sale when Gomes still has over three years remaining on his contract.
That said, respect may be given to the 24-year-old developing into one of the most decorated players in Wolves' history, Gomes now having nine caps for Brazil.
Since his €18.7m switch in January 2023, Gomes has contributed seven goals and three assists from his 79 appearances, yet it is his general industry in the engine room that has made him a standout player in the Premier League.
Wolves are hoping that Gomes can help ensure that the club retain their Premier League status during the closing two months of the season, but the player is reaching a stage where he is outgrowing the West Midlands outfit.
As per the report, Flamengo are keeping a watching brief due to a 10% sell-on clause, while Manchester United are also regarded as a potential suitor if they can stay on the right side of the Premier League's Profit an Sustainability regulations.

Do Liverpool need Gomes?
When fit, the trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are the established three in Slot's midfield.
Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo are viewed as alternatives, while Slot has been left impressed when academy graduate James McDonnell has featured on rare occasions.
As it stands, Gomes would likely be viewed as first backup if he were to move to Anfield, yet Slot would likely take advantage of greater rotation if he had a player of Gomes's attributes at his disposal.
