Paul Pogba 'to cost Manchester United £78m'

Manchester United will reportedly have to pay a British record £78m to bring Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford.

Manchester United will reportedly have to pay a British-record £78m to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford this summer.

The 23-year-old midfielder left United for Juventus in 2012 for just £800,000 but the Serie A side believe that his stock has since risen 100-fold, according to The Mirror.

The Old Lady are planning to start a bidding war for Pogba's services after learning that new United manager Jose Mourinho is keen to rebuild his midfield around the France international.

Mourinho made an approach for Pogba when he was in charge at Chelsea last summer but balked at Juve's £71m price tag, a figure that also cooled interest from Manchester City.

The newspaper claims that Pogba, meanwhile, is thought to prefer a move to La Liga, where the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid will be competing in next season's Champions League.

Earlier this week, Pogba spoke of his "respect" for former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
