Rotherham United bring in former Manchester United man Tom Thorpe

Rotherham United complete their second signing of the day by adding former Manchester United man Tom Thorpe.

Rotherham United have signed former Manchester United defender Tom Thorpe.

The 24-year-old was a free agent after leaving the Red Devils this summer.

Millers boss Steve Evans claimed that several teams from the Premier League, Championship and Scottish Premiership were interested in signing Thorpe.

"This is a young man that I have targeted since the first day he was released by Manchester United," Evans told the club website.

"There is no secret within the Millers that I tried to take young Tom on loan on a number of occasions last season, but at that time we couldn't make it happen.

"This young man has everything that is good with the modern day footballer. He has height, strength, speed, awareness and technical ability. There is no doubt that this lad for me is exceptional."

Thorpe made his senior United debut last year by coming on as a late substitute against West Ham United in September.
