Burnley up to third with MK Dons win

Burnley move up to third in the Championship with a 2-1 win over MK Dons at Turf Moor.

Burnley have moved up to third in the Championship with a 2-1 win over MK Dons at Turf Moor this evening.

The Clarets went close on 16 minutes when Michael Kightly met Tendayi Darikwa's cross, but the winger could only head over the bar.

Andre Gray should have done better for Burnley moments later after good work from Vokes, but the former Brentford star couldn't finish off the chance from close range.

Michael Keane almost broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark when he rose highest from a corner, but his header could only clip the top of the crossbar.

Sean Dyche's side continued to press for the opener and Gray's heavy touch saw his chance smothered by Dons keeper David Martin.

Vokes eventually made the home side's pressure count when he swivelled on the edge of the box before unleashing a volley that left Martin with no chance on 32 minutes.

However, Karl Robinson's side were back in it as the game crept into stoppage time, and it was Carl Baker who levelled with a header.

Burnley were in front once again less than five minutes into the second half though, and it was George Boyd who gave the former Premier League side the lead when he smashed a first-time volley past Martin from Gray's cross.

Boyd's cross was then met by Kightly, but again the winger could only header over on 68 minutes.

Vokes almost put daylight between the two sides but his goal-bound header was cleared off the line on 73 minutes.
