Newcastle United's Alan Pardew: 'We needed shaking up against Tottenham Hotspur'

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew reveals that "strong words" were used in his half-time team talk during Sunday's win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that a few "strong words" were said at half time during his side's Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Magpies entered the interval a goal down at White Hart Lane, but eventually clinched a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Sammy Ameobi and Ayoze Perez.

"There were a few strong words," The Chronicle quotes Pardew as saying. "I said to them afterwards that it's not nice as a manager to sometimes come in and bark out orders, but sometimes it's necessary just to shake people up – we needed shaking up.

"We gave too much possession and space to Tottenham. We didn't make a challenge and we were fortunate to come in at 1-0. We reminded them of the fundamentals of a Premier League game and we got a much more stronger attitude."

Newcastle have won two of their league matches so far this season.
