Michel Platini supports sin bins in football

UEFA president Michel Platini backs the notion of introducing sin bins to football as a penalty for yellow card offences.

UEFA president Michel Platini has again backed the prospect of introducing sin bins to football.

The idea has been suggested as a way of punishing players for simulation and thus deter them from diving in the future and the Frenchman has previously been a public supporter of it.

Platini has reiterated his agreement with the notion, but said that he would not stop at diving, rather use it as a penalty for all yellow card offences.

He told reporters: "I'd make it like rugby, punishing offender with 10 or 15 minutes out."

Sin bins were introduced to rugby union in 2001 and are also commonly used in rugby league and ice hockey.
