Preview: Norwich City vs. Newcastle United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Premier League game between Norwich City and Newcastle United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Norwich City host Newcastle United in their first home game back in the Premier League after regaining their top-flight status at the end of last term.

Both sides will be searching for their first points of the season after defeats on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Although they fell to a 4-1 defeat at Liverpool last weekend, Norwich City go into their first home fixture of the season heartened by their performance at Anfield, particularly their second half display.

Despite trailing 4-0 at half time, The Canaries continued to play their attacking brand of football and caused the Reds' defence a few problems, resulting in Teemu Pukki's 64th minute goal.

Daniel Farke will be looking to build on that performance, and will see the visit of less-fancied opposition, in the form of Newcastle United, as a good opportunity to put some points on the board.

This fixture will have added incentive for City goalkeeper Tim Krul, who comes up against the club for whom he played more than 180 times.

Newcastle also suffered defeat on the opening weekend, a 1-0 home loss to Arsenal, but like their hosts they will have taken plenty of positives from the game.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's second half strike was the difference between the two sides, but new Toon boss Steve Bruce will have been pleased with the spirit his team showed at St James' Park.

Despite some unrest amongst the supporters on Tyneside, Newcastle did spend money on players over the summer, including a club-record deal believed to be £40m for striker Joelinton from Hoffenheim.

The trip to Carrow Road does not hold many pleasant memories for the Toon Army in recent years. You have to go back to January 1994 for the last time Newcastle defeated Norwich away from home when goals from Andy Cole and Peter Beardsley secured a 2-1 victory.

Team News

Farke may be able to call upon summer recruit Ibrahim Amadou, signed from Sevilla, to make his Norwich debut.

Christoph Zimmermann (knee) and Alexander Tettey (calf) remain unavailable through injury, but defender Timm Klose may be fit for a recall after a groin problem.

Newcastle have a fitness concern over midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, who limped off during last week's game against Arsenal with a knee injury.

No further problems have been reported following that fixture, but Bruce remains without DeAndre Yedlin, Christian Atsu, Dwight Gayle, Florian Lejeune and Jack Colback.

This game could be too soon for striker Andy Carroll, who returned to the club last week, to be involved, but he is expected to feature later this month.

Norwich City possible starting lineup: Krul; Aarons, Hanley, Godfrey, Lewis; Cantwell, Buendia, Stiepermann, Trybull, McLean; Pukki

Newcastle United possible starting lineup: Dubravka; Dummett, Schar, Lascelles, Manquillo; Ritchie, Longstaff, Hayden, Almiron; Joelinton, Saint-Maximin

We say: Norwich 2-1 Newcastle

Norwich showed enough attacking threat against Liverpool to suggest that they will cause teams problems in the Premier League this season. Newcastle showed plenty of spirit in defeat against Arsenal, but we feel that the hosts will just have enough to edge a close encounter.
