Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind is reportedly attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, who are looking for a replacement for the injured Taiwo Awoniyi.

Nottingham Forest have reportedly set their sights on Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind ahead of the January transfer window.

Wind has been in fine form for the Bundesliga club this season, netting 10 goals, including the opener in their eye-catching 2-1 win over RB Leipzig last weekend.

The Dane has been slightly overshadowed by the scoring exploits of Harry Kane and Serhou Guirassy so far this season, but he is third in scoring charts behind those two.

Wolfsburg have been heavily reliant on Wind's goals so far, as he has scored 56% of them in the Bundesliga, the highest proportion of any player for their respective club in the division.

That has caught the attention of Nottingham Forest, as Football Insider claims that Wind is one of a number of options that the club are looking at to bring in up top.

This comes following the news that main striker Taiwo Awoniyi will miss up to four months of action after undergoing groin surgery.

Awoniyi is Forest's current top scorer with four goals to his name this season, adding to his tally of 10 from the last campaign which helped the club ensure Premier League survival on their return to the top flight.

In his absence, Chris Wood looks the most likely candidate to step in, being one of the few out-and-out strikers in the squad, along with Divock Origi.

However, Wood had a disappointing afternoon stepping into Awoniyi's shoes against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, conceding the penalty which saw them fall 3-1 behind early in the second half.

Having reaped the rewards of shopping in Germany when buying Awoniyi from Union Berlin, Forest could re-enter that market in signing Wind during the winter window.

Steve Cooper was forced to bid farewell to his Welsh compatriot Brennan Johnson late in the summer window, selling the forward to Tottenham Hotspur for £47.5m.

Even though Forest spent a fair amount of that money late in the window, it is believed owner Evangelos Marinakis will make more funds available once more, as they look to steer clear of the drop.

Forest paid transfer fees for six players during the final two days of August, including breaking their club record for Ibrahim Sangare, but they remain slightly light in the striking department, especially given Awoniyi's injury.

Cooper will hope that the squad can be bolstered during January though, as a recent report has claimed that his role is under intense scrutiny at the moment, following a run of just one win in nine league games.

Forest will look to improve on that form when they welcome Everton to the City Ground on Saturday evening in the Premier League.
