On the back of losing 4-0 at Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the season, it was imperative that Wayne Rooney and his Plymouth side delivered a response.

Their spurt of goals against Cheltenham Town in the EFL Cup took over an hour to come, yet a 3-0 victory was just what Rooney needed to avoid more negative attention.

Three days later, the Pilgrims played host to Hull City, initially taking the lead through new signing Ibrahim Cissoko before having to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Nevertheless, a share of the spoils against a promotion candidate should be viewed as a positive result, Plymouth having also now gone five competitive games at Home Park without defeat.

On the flip side, though, they have also lost their last three Championship away games, conceding eight goals and without getting on the scoresheet.

As for QPR, Marti Cifuentes will be relieved with the response of his side to their 3-1 defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion on the first weekend of the season.

A 2-1 victory at Cambridge United in the EFL Cup first round did not necessarily come as a surprise, yet it was a welcome boost ahead of a trip to Sheffield United.

Trailing 2-0, it appeared that QPR would lose convincingly at Bramall Lane, but the Hoops battled back to secure a 2-2 draw despite a late dismissal.

Cifuentes will hope that a return to Loftus Road will lead to their first league win of the campaign as they bid to move away from the lower echelons of the division.

Team News

QPR midfielder Jack Colback would have been in line to start this contest until he was sent off during the final stages against Sheffield United.

Jonathan Varane may be given another chance to impress instead, while Lyndon Dykes will hope for his first start of the campaign having netted a late leveller at Bramall Lane.

Paul Smyth is in line to replace Lucas Andersen after the latter's withdrawal during the first half in Yorkshire.

Barring any fitness issues, Rooney may be prepared to stick with the same Plymouth XI from the draw with Hull.

Cissoko's goal should be enough to keep him in the side, with the likes of Darko Gyabi and Frederick Issaka having to remain among the replacements.

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Nardi; Dunne, Cook, Clarke-Salter, Paal; Varane, Field; Dembele, Smyth, Saito; Frey

Plymouth Argyle possible starting lineup:
Hazard; Edwards, Gibson, Galloway, Mumba; Randell, Forshaw; Whittaker, Bundu, Cissoko; Hardie

We say: Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Plymouth Argyle

With both teams earning respectable draws last weekend, they will be confident of getting a win on the board here. However, we have to give the advantage to the home side, who could start fast and leave the visitors chasing the game.
