Barcelona reportedly promised that they would sign Neymar during this summer's transfer window to prevent him from moving to Real Madrid ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
The Brazil international was strongly linked with a return to Camp Nou last summer, but the Spanish champions could not come to an agreement with PSG over a transfer fee.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid were actually close to signing the 28-year-old last summer, but Barca prevented the move by issuing the South American a promise.
The report claims that the Catalan giants told Neymar that they would re-sign him ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, although the coronavirus pandemic could harm Barca's transfer plans.
The attacker, who has 18 goals and 10 assists in 22 games at club level this term, scored 105 times in 186 appearances for Barca between 2013 and 2017 before joining PSG.
Neymar's current deal with Thomas Tuchel's side will run until June 2022.
