Jose Fonte not getting carried away by Southampton form

Southampton captain Jose Fonte insists that he is not getting carried away by the team's 2-1 victory away to Newcastle.

Southampton captain Jose Fonte has refused to get carried away by the team's win at Newcastle United.

The Saints returned to third place in the Premier League table on Saturday as they left St James' Park with a 2-1 victory.

Despite seeing his side maintain their bid for Champions League qualification, Fonte insists that he is remaining focused on the rest of the campaign.

"We came to a tough ground, took the win, so we'll take it game by game and move on," he told the club's official website. "We only think about the next game, we don't think about the position at the end. We'll think about the next game and try to win it.

"It's a great position to be in with 16 games to go, but we'll take it one by one. We arrived at this game tired, we had three tough away games. We spent the week travelling and in hotels, so for us to come here and put this massive effort in and this performance, it means the world."

Southampton are back in action this Saturday when they host Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
