Report: Real Madrid rule out move for Christian Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly given a big boost as Real Madrid are no longer in the running to sign Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Real Madrid will reportedly show faith in their own players after ruling out a summer transfer for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international was considered to be one of Los Blancos' top transfer targets as part of a major overhaul ahead of next season.

Tottenham are believed to have quoted Madrid a world-record fee of £225m to sign the 26-year-old, however, which appears to have put the European champions off making a move.

Spanish outlet Diario AS suggests that Madrid will instead stick largely with what they have got, with Luka Modric in line for a new contract and Dani Ceballos being promised more playing time.

Eriksen will have a year left to run on his contract at the end of the season and has offered little indication that he intends to sign an extension.

Madrid could now instead wait another 12 months and agree a pre-contract agreement with the former Ajax ace, but they are expected to face competition from a number of heavyweight clubs.
