Garry Monk: 'Bafetimbi Gomis very happy at Swansea City'

Garry Monk says that Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis is happy in South Wales after previously talking up an exit.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has insisted that striker Bafetimbi Gomis is now happy at the Liberty Stadium after expressing a desire to leave last month.

The Frenchman played second fiddle to Wilfried Bony for much of the season and said that he was keen to quit the club - even after the Ivorian's sale to Manchester City.

He was credited with Saturday's winning goal against Manchester United - just his second in the Premier League - and Monk hopes to see him kick on now after staying at City.

"I am honest enough to tell you if he was unhappy and it wasn't working out, but he's been brilliant," he told the South Wales Evening Post.

"Yes he said what he said, and I had words with him about that. What we talked about will remain between me and him, but Bafe's a great person and I am really happy that he has got the goal.

"Hopefully now he can go on a run and help his team like he did on Saturday by scoring a few more goals."

The 29-year-old has netted five times in all competitions following a Bosman switch to Swansea in the summer.
