Ashley Williams expects interest in Garry Monk

Ashley Williams admits that he wouldn't be surprised if clubs were interested in Swansea City manager Garry Monk this summer.

Ashley Williams has admitted that he expects there to be interest in Swansea City manager Garry Monk this summer.

Monk has delivered a record points tally for the club in his first full season in charge since replacing Michael Laudrup, and he is seen as one of the challengers to Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho for the Premier League's Manager of the Year award.

Rumours have also suggested that he could be a target for West Ham United as they identify possible replacements for Sam Allardyce, but Williams remains hopeful that Monk will not follow in the footsteps of Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers by leaving the club.

"It would not surprise me if there is interest in Garry, we seem to lose a manager nearly every year," the Welsh defender told reporters. "But from my point of view I think this is the perfect place for him to work and learn his craft at management."

Swansea, who travel to Arsenal on Monday night, currently sit eighth in the table.
