St Helens full-back Paul Wellens will miss Friday's Super League clash against local rivals Wigan Warriors after he lost his appeal over a one-match ban.

The 32-year-old was found guilty of a dangerous throw on Warrington's Lee Briers during last weekend's 28-16 win at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Despite submitting a letter of reference from Briers at the appeal hearing, Wellens was deemed responsible for the incident.

St Helens currently sit seventh in the Super League table.
