Scotland are forced to settle for bottom spot in the Six Nations following their 13-6 loss against Italy.

Italy won their first and only match of the Six Nations at the expense of Scotland in Rome this afternoon.

In a largely uneventful opening 40 minutes, both sides got themselves onto the scoreboard with a penalty apiece.

Mirco Bergamasco put the home side in front early in the match, before Greig Laidlaw kicked between the posts to level up proceedings in the 36th minute.

Italy regained the lead shortly after the restart when Giovanbattista Venditti went over for the first try of the match. Their advantage was extended further as Kristopher Burton landed the resultant conversion.

Laidlaw reduced the arrears on the hour mark when he scored his second penalty of the match.

However, his intervention failed to spark a comeback from Scotland, who have to settle for bottom spot in this year's Six Nations tournament.

The hosts made sure of the victory with three minutes remaining when Burton kicked his second effort of the afternoon.
