Report: Manu Tuilagi agrees new Leicester Tigers deal

Manu Tuilagi reportedly agrees a new contract with Aviva Premiership side Leicester Tigers.

Leicester Tigers centre Manu Tuilagi has reportedly agreed to sign a new contract with the Aviva Premiership club after rejecting a move abroad.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill spoke last month of his intention to offer the 24-year-old a lucrative new deal at the club which would see him become one of the highest-paid players in world rugby.

Despite reports last week that Wasps and Worcester Warriors had offered Tuilagi terms to sign on when his current Leicester deal expires in the summer, the Telegraph claims that a deal for the England international to stay at Welford Road will be confirmed in the next few days.

Tuilagi has not featured for almost a year because of a persistent groin injury, but was still thought to be the target of numerous English clubs and several teams in France.

The report claims that he had received salary offers of up to £750,000 per season, but that a move abroad would have endangered his England career as incoming coach Eddie Jones has agreed to uphold the RFU policy of only picking players from the Aviva Premiership.

Samoa-born Tuilagi has been with Leicester since his early teenage years and was given the unwavering support of the club through his long injury absence and his charge of assault in May.
