Doubles win puts Switzerland ahead in Davis Cup final

Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer beat France's Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet in straight sets to take a lead in the Davis Cup final.

Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka have given Switzerland a 2-1 lead over France in the Davis Cup final after winning the third rubber 6-3 7-5 6-4 this afternoon.

Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet were put under pressure when the Swiss duo got an early break on the board which helped them quickly wrap up the opening set.

The French pair seemed to find their form in the second, keeping the set on serve for the first 10 games, but Wawrinka forced an error to edge him and Federer ahead, before the world number two wrapped it up with his service game.

Wawrinka continued to put Benneteau under pressure with his returns in the third set, resulting in another break for the Swiss pair which allowed them a straight-sets win.

The victory gives Switzerland a 2-1 lead after each side clinched a win in the singles rubbers yesterday.
