Spain's David Ferrer suffers a shock three-set defeat to Dmitry Tursunov at the Barcelona Open.

World number four David Ferrer was knocked out of the Barcelona Open this afternoon by Dmitry Tursunov, who recorded a 7-5 3-6 6-1 victory in the Spanish city.

The Russian claimed the opening set 7-5, but it looked as though Ferrer was going to head into the next round when he took the second set thanks to one break of Tursunov's serve.

However, world number 67 Tursunov regained his composure in the deciding set and eventually dropped just one game on his way to securing the win.

He will now take on Brazilian Thomas Bellucci for a place in round three of the tournament.

Ferrer, who was the top seed, has reached the final of the competition on three previous occasions.
