Former world number one Roger Federer beat Colombian Santiago Giraldo in the first round of the US Open.
The 30-year-old won the match 6-4 6-3 6-2 to claim his place in the second round, despite stuttering throughout the first two sets.
The world number three powered through the first five games convincingly but began to struggle after dropping serve twice.
Despite the initial hiccup, the five-time former US Open champion managed to see out the set but was broken by the 23-year-old in the second set.
Federer managed to overcome the Colombian and will now face Israeli professional Dudi Sela in the next round at Flushing Meadows.
