John Isner advances at Wimbledon

John Isner wins two breakers on his way to knocking Russian Evgeny Donskoy out of Wimbledon in the first round.

American number two John Isner booked his place in the second round at Wimbledon, thanks to a 6-1 7-6 7-6 victory over Evgeny Donskoy this afternoon.

It appeared that Isner was going to ease through when he claimed the opening set in just 24 minutes.

However, Russian Donskoy provided more resistance during the next two sets and was able to take both to a tie-breaker.

He was unable to prevail from those, though, as Isner won through 7-5 and 7-3 respectively.

The 28-year-old, who has never gone beyond round two at Wimbledon, will take on either Pablo Andujar or Adrian Mannarino for a slot in the third round.
