New loan signing Islam Slimani fails to make Newcastle United's squad for Sunday's Premier League match at Crystal Palace due to a thigh complaint.

Islam Slimani has not been named in Newcastle United's squad for Sunday's Premier League match at Crystal Palace.

The Algeria international was signed on loan from Leicester City at the end of the January transfer window but has not yet shaken off a thigh complaint.

Rafael Benitez has made three changes from the Magpies side that drew 1-1 against Burnley in midweek.

Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle come in for Christian Atsu, Mikel Merino and Joselu, while Sparta Prague loanee Martin Dubravka makes the bench.

Palace, meanwhile, are without Bakary Sako for the rest of the season after the forward suffered a fractured ankle and damaged ligaments.

The 29-year-old's place in the Eagles starting XI is taken up by former Newcastle man Yohan Cabaye in the only change from the midweek 1-1 draw at West Ham United.

Mamadou Sakho is named on the bench alongside new striker Alexander Sorloth, while goalkeeper Dion Henry also takes his place among the subs, replacing Julian Speroni.
