Heerenveen started the strongest with Luciano Slagveer coming close with a rocket of a shot that just flew over the bar.

Simon Thern then opened the scoring after some poor De Graafschap defending allowed the midfielder to knock the ball into an empty net.

Mitchell te Vrede got a debut goal and his side's second of the evening after following up a parried shot and converting from close range.
