British diver Tom Daley thinks that attending the opening ceremony at London 2012 tonight will prove to be a "psychological" boost for him and his teammates.

British diver Tom Daley has revealed that he will be attending tonight's opening ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, despite a host of fellow athletes sitting out the occasion.

The 18-year-old believes that the atmosphere from this evening's highly-anticipated event will provide him and his teammates with a boost heading into their event.

"I've been talking with Alexei and our coaches and the whole team and they came to the decision that the psychological benefit of going to the opening ceremony and seeing the applause and everything that is going to happen outweighs any reason not to do it," said Daley.

"I really can't wait to walk out in front of those thousands of people that are going to be in the stadium and to know they are all supporting Team GB is going to be great."

Meanwhile, the Team GB swimmers and tennis players will not be in attendance at the three-hour event.
