Paul Merson: Danny Welbeck "ticks a lot of boxes for Arsenal"

Danny Welbeck's pace will get the best out of Arsenal's creative players, according to Paul Merson.

Paul Merson believes that Danny Welbeck was the type of striker that Arsenal needed.

The England international joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day from Manchester United for a fee of £16m.

There have been question marks over the 23-year-old's goal record for the Red Devils, but Merson believes that his style of play will suit Arsenal's creative players.

"He ticks a lot of boxes for Arsenal. He will go beyond and is not worried about coming short like everyone else. People like Ozil, Ramsey and Cazorla will be licking their lips," he told Sky Sports News.

"If you're a midfielder, you're only as good as the centre-forward and vice-versa. You could be the best centre-forward in the world, but if you do not get the service, you won't score a goal."

Welbeck will make his debut for the Gunners against Manchester City this afternoon. Follow Sports Mole's live text coverage of that clash at the Emirates Stadium here.
