Kevin Campbell urges Arsenal to sign Norwich City's Emiliano Buendia

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes that the Gunners should be looking to sign Norwich City's Emiliano Buendia this month.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes that Norwich City's Emiliano Buendia would prove to be "a very clever signing" for the Gunners.

With Mesut Ozil looking increasingly likely to leave the club this month, Arsenal are expected to move for a new creative midfielder despite the impressive form of Emile Smith Rowe.

Buendia is the player that Mikel Arteta's side have been most strongly linked with, and a possible player-plus-cash deal for the £40m-rated Argentinian has been mooted.

Campbell believes that Arsenal should attempt to strike a deal for the 24-year-old in the January window, telling Football Insider: "I like him. He has the qualities that Mikel Arteta is looking for in a player.

"Not only can he pick a pass, he can score and he works hard. He has that energy which has been missing from the team for long periods of this season.

"I think he would be a very clever signing. There are some really good players in the Championship and Buendia is one of them. He would fit what Arteta wants to do perfectly.

"I know Norwich will be desperate to keep him but this is Arsenal and business is business. I am sure Buendia would want to join Arsenal, that is for sure."

Buendia has scored seven goals and set up seven more in the current Championship campaign, and his deal at Carrow Road is set to run until 2024.
