Arsene Wenger: 'FIFA must stand up for Qatar after awarding them 2022 World Cup'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that FIFA should "stand up" for their original decision of awarding Qatar the 2022 World Cup.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that FIFA must stick by their original decision to award Qatar the 2022 World Cup.

There have been suggestions that the tournament could be moved to the winter months due to the extreme heat in Qatar during the summer.

However, Wenger believes that if enough is put in place to make the supporters safe, the competition should go ahead as planned.

"FIFA has to stand up for that," BBC Sport quotes Wenger as saying. "I don't know all the projects that were submitted to FIFA. They decided at the time of the vote that it would be Qatar and that they know as well we know that the World Cup is in the summer.

"It's in the rules of FIFA. They voted for Qatar and they have to stand up for them now and make sure it is done in decent conditions."

Yesterday, Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand described the controversy over the tournament as a farce.
