Barcelona president Joan Laporta reveals that his side are "waiting on" a response from Bayern Munich over a bid for Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that his side are "waiting on" a response from Bayern Munich, having made an offer for Poland international Robert Lewandowski.

The centre-forward is the La Liga outfit's leading target during this summer's transfer window, and the club are working to bring him to Camp Nou despite resistance from Bayern.

Laporta has confirmed that Barcelona have submitted an offer for the 33-year-old and are now waiting to learn whether they have been successful in their attempts to sign him.

The Catalan side's president has also 'thanked' Lewandowski for the 'effort he has made' in attempting to force a switch to Camp Nou in the current market.

"You know that we have made an offer for Lewandowski and we're waiting on Bayern's response. I want to thank the player for the effort he's made to come. They're evaluating the offer and we're waiting for the response," Laporta told reporters when asked for an update on the situation.

Lewandowski has made it clear that he wants to leave Allianz Arena this summer in search of pastures new, with a number of clubs said to be keeping an eye on the situation.

"My era at Bayern is over. I don't see any possibility to continue playing for this club anymore. Bayern's a serious club and I believe they won't keep me, I don't want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don't stop me," Lewandowski recently told reporters.

The forward's contract at Bayern is due to expire next June, but there have been claims that the Bundesliga giants would want at least €60m (£52m) to consider selling him this summer.

Lewandowski scored 50 goals and registered seven assists in 46 appearances at club level during the 2021-22 campaign, as the Munich giants won the Bundesliga title once again.

Meanwhile, he has scored 344 goals and registered 72 assists in 374 appearances for Bayern in all competitions since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest, but Barcelona are believed to be the only realistic contenders to sign him this summer.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic recently told Bild: "Our position is clear: Robert has a contract until the summer of 2023. New bid from Barcelona? I'm not thinking about that. I'm expecting to see Robert in training at Sabener Straße on July 12."

There have been suggestions that the Munich outfit are considering moving for Cristiano Ronaldo as a replacement for Lewandowski.

However, despite Ronaldo attempting to force an exit from Man United this summer, it is understood that Bayern are not considering making a bid to bring him to Allianz Arena in the current market.

Barcelona have confirmed the signings of Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen on free transfers this month, and the club are planning to be active for the remainder of the window despite their financial problems.

The Catalan outfit reportedly believe that €40m (£34.5m) is a fair price for Lewandowski this summer, but their valuation is thought to be some way behind Bayern's, with the German side refusing to sell him on the cheap despite his desire to leave.
