Lionel Messi has reportedly warned Barcelona against signing Paris Saint-Germain prospect Xavi Simons.
The 18-year-old has progressed through the youth ranks at the Parc des Princes and is beginning to make fleeting appearances for the first team - five in all competitions this season.
Simons has entered the final six months of his contract with Mauricio Pochettino's side, though, and there have been suggestions that the youngster is pining for a return to Barcelona.
However, El Nacional claims that Messi has advised Blaugrana boss Xavi against a move due to concerns over the Dutchman's slow development.
The report adds that Messi had the conversation with Xavi at a birthday dinner after Mino Raiola informed Barca of Simons's stance, and PSG are still open to offloading the teenager this year.
Simons has banked three goals and six assists in six UEFA Youth League appearances this season but missed the crucial penalty in Monday's Coupe de France defeat to Nice.
