The 25-year-old only joined his League Two employers in the summer following his release by Lincoln City.
However, he has now been granted permission to switch to Blundell Park, where he will spend the next month.
It is expected that Tomlinson will go straight into the squad for Friday evening's National League encounter against Tranmere Rovers.
