Preview: Bolton Wanderers vs. Forest Green Rovers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Bolton Wanderers and Forest Green Rovers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After losing to Derby County on Saturday, Bolton Wanderers will be looking to bounce back when they face Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be aiming to end their poor run of form after failing to win any of their last seven games in all competitions.

Bolton saw their eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end following a 2-1 away defeat to fellow playoff side Derby County on Saturday.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Conor Hourihane both found the net to give the Rams a two-goal lead, and although Kieran Sadlier halved the deficit in the third minute of stoppage time, it was too little too late for the Trotters.

Bolton remain in fifth place following the narrow loss, six points clear of seventh-placed Peterborough, although Ian Evatt's side have played two games more than Posh.

Despite losing on Saturday, Bolton still have an unbeaten home run to defend, after winning five and drawing three of their previous eight home matches in all competitions.

Impressively, no team in the third tier have conceded fewer home goals than the Trotters, who have only let in eight goals in 14 league games at the University of Bolton Stadium this season.

While the hosts are situated in the playoffs, Forest Green are currently propping up the League One table with just 21 points from 27 games.

After being knocked out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 defeat to Championship side Birmingham City, Forest Green were on the wrong side of the same scoreline again on Saturday.

Myles Peart-Harris gave Forest Green the lead in their home league meeting with MK Dons, but a Mo Eisa brace turned the game on its head, leaving Forest Green winless in seven matches in all competitions, with six of those games ending in defeat.

With Tuesday's visitors four points adrift of safety, hopes of closing that gap on Tuesday will not be boosted by a run of 12 away league games without a victory.

While Forest Green have not won an away league match since the opening weekend of the season, they may take some inspiration from the 1-0 win that they recorded in their home meeting with Bolton in October.

Team News

Bolton are expected to be without Jon Dadi Bodvarsson for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury, while Jack Iredale is also sidelined.

After joining on loan from Manchester United, Shola Shoretire made his Bolton debut as a substitute on Saturday, and he could be presented with his first start for the club in midweek.

With nine league goals to his name this season, Dion Charles is Bolton's current top scorer, and he will look to add to that tally when he starts up front on Tuesday.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon the services of Jordan Moore-Taylor, who is a long-term injury absentee.

January signing Amadou Bakayoko recently joined on a permanent deal from Bolton, and after being given his first start for Forest Green on Saturday, he will feature in the forward line against his former side in midweek.

Despite losing narrowly MK Dons, Burchnall could decide to name an unchanged lineup for Tuesday's contest.

Bolton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Trafford; Toal, Aimson, Johnston; Bradley, Morley, Dempsey, Williams; Shoretire; Charles, N'Lundulu

Forest Green Rovers possible starting lineup:
Doohan, O'Keeffe, Cooper, Casey, Robson; McGeouch, Peart-Harris, Stevenson; Garrick, McAllister, Bakayoko

We say: Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Forest Green Rovers

Although Forest Green emerged victorious in the reverse fixture, they have lost six of their last seven competitive games, and we think that they will be edged out by a Bolton side, who usually perform well on home turf.
