Chelsea captain John Terry admits that he made a mistake in kneeing Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez on Tuesday night.

John Terry has revealed that he apologised to interim manager Roberto Di Matteo and his teammates following his red card against Barcelona last Tuesday evening.

The Chelsea skipper was handed his marching orders for forcing his knee into the back of Barca's Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez.

Having had time to consider his actions, Terry has conceded that he made a mistake in the Nou Camp.

"I apologised to Robbie, the players and the staff after the game. I'm big enough to come out and man up when I make a mistake and, clearly, I made a mistake on Tuesday," he wrote in the club's matchday programme.

"I'm sorry for that and I owe it to you, the fans, to come out and say so.

"After that, for the boys to go and get the result they did, in the manner they did, was honestly one of the best things I have seen since I have been at Chelsea."

Terry has been named in the Chelsea starting lineup that will take on London rivals Queens Park Rangers this afternoon.
