Chelsea's pursuit of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde during 2022 may reportedly be dependent on the future of Antonio Rudiger.
The Blues were keen to sign the France international during the summer transfer window before eventually refusing to meet the 22-year-old's £68m release clause.
While the European champions still hold an interest in Kounde, they could opt against a fresh approach if Rudiger stays at Stamford Bridge.
According to La Colina de Nervion, a January bid will only materialise on the back of the German failing to agree fresh terms.
Despite being regarded as a key man and having less than a year left on his existing terms, Rudiger is yet to agree a new contract.
The report suggests that should Chelsea part ways with the 28-year-old for a cut-price fee, Kounde is viewed as the first-choice replacement.
