Aston Villa are reportedly preparing to up their interest in Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud.
With Danny Drinkwater having already joined on loan from the Blues, Villa are unable to bring in Giroud on a temporary basis as they bid to strengthen in attack.
However, according to Le10Sport, the West Midlands outfit want to secure a permanent deal for the France international.
Having fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, the 33-year-old is hoping to join a new club before the end of the January transfer window.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has acknowledged that the veteran could be allowed to leave, providing that it makes sense for the West Londoners.
Giroud has not featured for Chelsea since November 30.
