Derby County striker Nick Blackman joins Sporting Gijon on season-long loan

Derby County confirm that forward Nick Blackman has joined Spanish second division side Sporting Gijon on loan for the rest of the season.

Derby County forward Nick Blackman has joined Spanish side Sporting Gijon on loan.

The 28-year-old appeared for the Rams in pre-season but has not played a competitive game for his parent club for more than a year.

Blackman joined Derby from Reading in 2016, but scored just one goal in 26 first-team appearances before spending the 2017-18 season with Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv.

"Derby County would like to wish Nick every success in his latest loan move," the club said in a statement.

Gijon finished fourth in the Spanish second division last season but missed out on promotion through the playoffs after losing to Real Valladolid in the semi-finals.
