Half-Time Report: Notts County level with Gillingham

Gillingham enjoy plenty of opportunites, but are unable to breakthrough against relegation-threatened Notts County.

Notts County will be relegated as it stands after they reached half time level with Gillingham, with results elsewhere in League One going against them.

The Magpies almost got off to the worst possible start when Cody McDonald wriggled free and found space to shoot, only to be denied by veteran keeper Roy Carroll.

Carroll needed to be alert again soon after when a Gills clearance saw the Northern Irishman putting in a last-gasp block to stop Aaron Morris as County looked to be living dangerously in the opening minutes.

The hosts continued to enjoy the greater attacking threat as John Marquis brought another save out of Carroll before Doug Loft's strike flew narrowly wide.

Midway through the half, County started to cause problems for the Gillingham defence as Garry Thompson forced Glenn Morris to turn his effort around the post.

Moments later, Graham Burke brought another stop from Morris as the visitors appeared to be settling into their task.

However, the Gills still carried a threat of their own, with John Egan bringing another save from the Notts stopper on 23 minutes, before striking the frame of the goal.

Gillingham's best chance of the opening half hour saw Bradley Dack round Carroll and pass the ball towards goal, but Gary Jones was on hand to clear from danger.

Dack then tried his luck with a drive from distance minutes later, which was only just off target as Justin Edinburgh's men continued to show plenty of ambition despite having nothing of note to play for on the final day.
