Antonio Conte makes it clear that striker Mauro Icardi would not be part of his project at Inter Milan next season.

Antonio Conte has confirmed that Mauro Icardi would not be part of his plans at Inter Milan for the 2019-20 campaign.

The striker, who has been at San Siro since 2013, finished the 2018-19 campaign as the club's top scorer with 17 goals in all competitions.

However, Conte made it clear that Icardi would no longer feature for the Nerazzurri by not including him on the club's pre-season tour of Asia earlier this week.

Speaking to Marca on the subject of Icardi, Conte said: "His situation is clear, as were the club.

"He's not part of the project. The market is still open and we're evaluation the players to sell and to sign."

The former Chelsea manager has set his sights on landing the signature of Romelu Lukaku, whom he attempted to bring to Stamford Bridge in 2017.

Inter's most recent offer of £54m for Lukaku was flatly rejected by Manchester United, with the Premier League club determined to make a profit on the striker they paid £75m for two years ago.
