Liverpool's stadium expansion given go-ahead by council planners

Liverpool's proposal to expand Anfield is reportedly edging closer, with planning officials due to vote on the recommendation next week.

Liverpool's plans to revamp Anfield have been given the green light by the city council's planning officials.

The Premier League outfit have proposed an extension of the Main Stand, which would create an additional 8,500 seats, while the report submitted to the council also details plans to expand the Anfield Road Stand, which would increase capacity to 58,800.

According to the Liverpool Echo, members of the city's planning committee will visit Anfield next Tuesday before declaring their vote.

The report has detailed plans to move the Hillsborough tribute from behind the Anfield Road Stand to a memorial garden, which will have seating areas for fans, as well as pieces of art depicting the club's history on display.

It has been claimed that construction will begin on January 2015 and should take around 20 months to complete.
